204x_mg_l_essien1Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac was on hand to watch Michael Essien for the Chelsea ‘s opening game of the season on Saturday .

The Serbian watched the game as the Blues needed a last minute Didier Drogba strike to seal a 2-1 victory over a stubborn Hull side.

Even though Essien is a key player for Rajevac, consistent monitoring of his key players and those of the periphery has helped him to formulate match-winning strategies for the Black Stars .

The Serbian wanted to see at first hand how Essien would perform in the new ‘Diamond System’ deployed by Chelsea ‘s Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti .

To the delight of Rajevac, Essien played well in the new system and played the entire duration of the game.

“I was very happy with what I saw from Essien and they way he was deployed during the game,” Rajevac told Ghanasoccernet.com http://ghanasoccernet.com/ after the game at Stamford Bridge .

“It has given me new ideas on how we can use Essien in different situations and I am pleased with what I saw.

“Essien is a key player for Ghana and the most important thing is that he is very very committed to the national cause.”
Rajevac will keep an eye on more players in England where he will visit injured Richard Kingson in Wigan before meeting John Pantsil in London by midweek.

He will then monitor a few key players in the other European countries before heading off to Accra to prepare for the 6 September World Cup qualifier against Sudan .

The master tactician has led Ghana to an unprecedented smooth ride in the second phase of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars sit on top of Group Five with maximum nine points from three matches and they are yet to concede a goal.
