Ras Mubarak: Mills’ missed opportunities

My first impression about the state of the nation was the admission by President Mills that he is indeed slow, though sure.

One might argue that the President’s admission is a show of candour.

The truth is, I don’t think president Mills appreciates the seriousness of being slow. The state of slowness alienates public support for the National Democratic Congress and is a put off for young voters.

The “slow but sure” statement aside, the directive to search all users of the VIP / VVIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport was a complete disaster. When I first heard that President Mills had been searched at the Kotoka Airport last year, I expressed my concerns when I met the Hon. Foreign minister at the Royal Gardens Hotel in London. Spare A Thought For Rawlings

At last weekend’s congress of the NDC in Tamale, ex-President Rawlings called on members of his party to “put a stop to the backstabbing, lies and treachery that is going on within the party and government”.

I immediately wondered who the advice was aimed at. Since the inauguration of President Mills in January 2009, the single most prominent person in the NDC who has been calling people “bastards”, “corrupt” “opportunist” , etc, etc, etc is Mr. Rawlings himself. Read more

Ato Kwamena Dadzie: A humble pie from the Black Stars

Black Stars_Gh 2008I am eating a lot of humble pie. I stuck my neck out and predicted that the Black Stars will be kicked out of the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday. But they proved me wrong with a one goal triumph over Burkina Faso. Read more

Arthur K: “A broken Ghana” instead of “A better Ghana”.

Arthur Kennedy

It is a year since the NDC swept into office promising “A BETTER GHANA”. For a President who graded his own performance proudly after his first hundred days, much was naturally expected in the first year.

There has been little.

There has, as expected, been an abundance of commentary. Some chroniclers of the Mills court, in the hallowed traditions of Squealer of “Animal Farm” and Goebbels of Hitler and the Third Reich, are loudly proclaiming that this is indeed our finest hour. Read more

Ato Kwamena Dadzie: Opoku-Manu must go

Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu

Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu

Ashanti Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku-Manu, must have smoked some weeds before mounting the podium to address NDC supporters over the weekend. There are few other ways to explain the senseless speech he delivered, urging party supporters to resort to violence to resolve their differences. If he wasn’t under the influence of any hallucinogens, then the man must be in need of serious psychiatric evaluation.

“If you can slap him, do so,” he said in Twi as he lashed out at those whose deeds were threatening the NDC’s stay in power. Comments like these are reckless and irresponsible. You don’t expect a man in Mr. Opoku-Manu’s position to utter them. But he did. Read more

He-Goat Hampers 4 X’mas

204x_mg_af7hyl3xws_goat2This piece is dedicated to all the bearded, stocky he-goats with curled horns, huge testicles and that distinctive smell that we all love to hate. The Christmas is over and the he-goats and fowls can breathe a sigh of relief. For many of us in Accra and other regional capitals such as Kumasi and Takoradi the human and vehicular traffic a few days prior to Christmas was just unbearable. Read more

WHO SHOT A GUN AT THE NPP REGIONAL ELECTIONS IN TAMALE?

January 6, 2010 by admin

204x_mg_9npp3At the regional delegates conference of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tamale on 3rdJanuary 2010, there were reports of gun shots at the place. This allegation of a gun shot spread so fast like a bush fire in the middle of severe winds!

Initial reports as carried by Joyfm on that day added “unconfirmed reports say one of them has been shot dead”. When I read that news item on joyfm I immediately called Tamale to ascertain the veracity or other wise of what I read in the news. Tamale is my biological home town so I am always curious about news from that place. The outright information I had was that, either confirmed or unconfirmed nobody died! Then I said Thank God! 204x_mg_lmcb_2010_lungsThe year 2010 was declared as year of the lungs to recognize that hundreds of millions of people around the world suffer each year from treatable and preventable chronic respiratory diseases. This initiative acknowledges that lung health has long been neglected in public discourses, and understands the need to unify different health advocates behind one purpose of lung health, informed Dr Nils Billo, Chair of the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS).
