A one-and-half-year-old baby girl, Adwoa Mansa Nsia Ababio, has since Monday been ‘imprisoned’ with her convicted mother by a circuit court at Fiapre, near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region. The baby’s mother, Adisatu Dauda, was jailed 10 years in hard labour for attempting to sell her baby.

The little girl is however far away from the Sunyani Central Prisons where her mother is serving her jail term, as she (baby) is in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare. Her father, Owura Osei Antwi, has filed a motion at the court to release her to him.
According to Mr. Antwi, who visited Daily Guide’s office in Sunyani with his father, he did not understand why his wife contacted Alex Boampong, a businessman, to negotiate to sell the baby to him. He said it is a mystery that the family was yet to come to terms with.
He said though he and Adisatu were divorced, he had been supplying all the basic needs of the woman and the child.

“I give her monthly remittance of GH¢30.00 to take care of my baby and herself”. Nana Nsia Ababio, Antwi’s father, debunked the prosecutor’s claim that Adisatu was roaming in all the area looking for somebody to sell the baby to.

According to him, he jailed mother went to the house o the popular contractor and struck a deal of GH ¢5,000 to sell the baby. The proposed buyer later informed the police about the incident, and the lady was arrested.
