University of Ghana debunks media reportage singling out Prof. Yankah

The University of Ghana, has debunked the numerous media reportage that has singled out Professor Kwesi Yankah, Pro-Vice Chancellor, as being the source of the University’s decision.

It said that on a number of occasions, some persons and group of people have made uncomplimentary and unsavoury public statement about him which has no merit.

These are contained in a statement signed by Mr. Joseph Marfo Budu, Registrar of the University, copied to Ghana News Agency on Thursday.

It said that these inaccurate perceptions parading in some media houses and the general public were in concern with the University’s recent decisions relating to Commonwealth.

The statement said that the governance and the structure of the University, the Academic Board operates under the University Council, the latter being the final decision making body.
It explained that officials are appointed to membership of various Standing Committees of the Academic board that sees to the daily administration and running of the University adding, the composition and functions are clearly defined in the University statutes and doesn’t provide unilateral decisions by a person.

The statement said “it is unfair for to malign Prof. Kwesi Yankah, Chairman of the Residence Board or indeed any official carrying out duties in such capacity”.

It called on the media to take into account the governance structure of the University and provide the public with accurate information in the development and coverage of the matter which was before court.
