Black Stars Paraphernalia On High Demand
The patronage of paraphernalia, which are branded in the national colours, has increased a few days after Ghana beat Serbia in the on-going FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Traders complained about low patronage of their goods before the commencement of the tournament at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday.
However, Ghanaians and other foreigners are trooping in their numbers to buy paraphernalia such as tee-shirts and lacoste, bracelets, necklaces, bandanas, earrings, clothes after the national team brought hope to Africans.
Many people are also buying the replica jerseys which they described as very beautiful and colorful. On the streets of Accra, from the Obetsebi-Lamptey Circle to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, several young Ghanaian traders were seen selling these paraphernalia.
For instance, bracelets are going for GH¢1 while bandanas are being sold at GH¢2. Lacoste and flags are selling at GH¢20 and GH¢4 respectively. Certainly, the euphoria has caught up with the entire populace who are ready to do anything to support their beloved team to excel at the biggest mundial in the world.
Some traders, who spoke to CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE noted that business would definitely boom as the Black Stars are bent on making Ghana and Africa proud.
Akosua Acheampong, a petty trader who usually sells second-hand clothes at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle told CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE that she decided to abandon her wares for now in order to sell the paraphernalia.
A petty trader at Osu in Accra, Abubakari Osman said, “This is the time to make more gains from the sale of paraphernalia. Soccer fans are in high spirit so they would buy my wares.”
CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE reported that business appears to be booming at Muzinda Residence Hostel in Pretoria, South Africa where most of the traveling Ghanaian soccer fans for the 2010 FIFA World Cup are based.
Ghanaian and South African traders have reportedly stormed the quiet place with their wares, ostensibly to lure the Ghanaian fans to purchase their items. Some of the items being sold at the area include flashy and latest mobile phones, electronic gadgets, perfumes and shoes, among others.
