The Minister of Interior, Mr. Martin Amidu has said any figure mentioned as the number of Ghanaian Refugees from the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo District to Togo should be considered as merely speculative until the Ministry of Information obtains verifiable evidence on the figure.

The Minister made the statement when he briefed Parliament on the alleged exodus of 3500 Ghanaians to neighbouring Republic of Togo as refugees. He said, a fact-finding team sent to Togo reported sighting about 20 tents for refugees not occupied by anybody at the time of the team’s visit and that most of the displaced persons in Bunkpurugu Yunyoo remained in Ghana.

According to the Minister, though some Ghanaians crossed to Togo during the heat of the conflict in Bunkpurugu Yunyoo, the Ministry has not yet obtained any list of Ghanaian Refugees in Togo from Togolese Officials.
