Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has told the students’ wing of the party at the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa that, one of his priorities, if given the nod to lead the NPP and consequently win the 2012 elections, will be to feature the youth in the building of the nation.
Speaking to the students before meeting delegates at the Tarkwa Nsuem constituency, Nana Addo exalted the achievements of the party and how it changed the fortunes of the Ghanaian youth when it was in power, by establishing youth centered policies like the National Youth Employment Programme.
Nana Addo said it will be one of his policies to make the youth, especially those from the tertiary levels, building blocks of the nation so as to take the country to higher heights.
He asked the students to analyze what the party did during its eight-year rule and by that, project the party’s image and also preach peace so as to help the country remain peaceful.
The meeting, which was at the insistence of the students, was to offer them the chance to be educated about the vision of the aspirant.
Nana Akufo-Addo said that the NPP chalked up a lot of successes, therefore, the party requires someone endowed with the democratic credentials of the party, to continue with the good works, and that he believes he wields the influence to catapult the party to power.
He said he had been tried and tested over the years, and that supporters of the party knew what he was capable of doing if given the mandate to lead the party.
The students, who took turns to ask questions, encouraged Nana Akufo-Addo not to slacken, but continue with his campaign to win the party’s presidential slot.
The 2008 presidential candidate of the NPP then continued with a mini rally at the Tarkwa community centre, before moving to Bogoso to continue with his campaign.
