THREE GHANAIANS who are believed to be printing fake United States of America dollar bills for circulation have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command.

The police, upon a tip off, arrested the men whose names were given as Robert Kwesi Mensah, 55, Nyameke mensah, 49, and Robert Goeke –Mensah, 37, at their Abossey Okai hideout.

A search by the police led to the retrieval of sizeable pieces of paper which were shaped like dollar bills and are believed to be the ones used in printing bills, rolls of cotton wool and other chemicals.

The fake dollar bills retrieved amounted to $280,000.

Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP George Luri, the Regional CID Operations Officer, indicated that on Tuesday March 9 2010, around 2:30 am, the police received information that a group of men were dealing drugs at Abossey Okai.

He said security personnel then stormed the house and a search led to the discovery of thousands of fake dollar bills.

He noted that the suspects lived in the self-contained compound house from where the items were retrieved.

“The exhibits were found in a room used as a store room by the occupants with several papers curved into the size of dollars {sic}”.

He continued that during interrogation one of the suspects admitted that the bag containing the fake dollar bills were left in the storeroom by a nephew for safekeeping a month ago.

He said investigations are ongoing and the three suspects will be processed for court soon.
