Rawlings’ constitutional privileges were never curtailed – Malik Baako

204x_mg_k52rj77ihd_malik_baako_newEditor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. says former president Rawlings was never stripped off his constitutionally guaranteed privileges.

According to him, protocol courtesies which are not captured in the Constitution but left to the discretion of the government in power were rather withdrawn.

He was responding to NDC Propaganda Secretary Richard Quashigah’s claims that ex-president Rawlings was stripped of all his privileges – denied the use of VVIP lounge and that he actually had to carry his own bags when travelling and go through security checks – when the NPP was in government.

Mr Quashigah alleged that the then Foreign Affairs Minister Nana Akuffo Addo announced that ex-president Rawlings’ privileges were curtailed because he talks irresponsibly.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Thursday, Malik Baako explained that ex-president Rawlings chose not to use the VVIP lounge and carry his bags.

He said Nana Akuffo Addo’s letter to the ex-president was in response to an application then Rawlings’ aid Victor Smith had written to the government for JJ’s entourage travelling outside the county.

Mr Baako said it was at that time that Nana Addo announced that the government would not be able to fulfill the ex-president’s request – something he was not entitled to constitutionally.
