Accra, March 9, 2010 – Ghana International School (GIS) has held a grand Science, Maths and ICT fair in their school compound over the weekend. The fair attracted several participants including the entire students’ body, staff and management of the school, parents and guardians, students from other schools as well as the media.

The bi-annual event is to enable students relate Science and Maths to technology. The fair also encouraged students to appreciate everyday application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

The fair was coloured with interesting projects from all categories of students including, junior classes, lower secondary, and upper secondary. The Students, in groups of three or four, explored projects under various categories including experiment/investigation, inventions, models, engineering and research etc under the broad subjects; Maths, Science and ICT.

Mimi, Lana and Beema, class five pupils explored the possibility of generating electricity from fruits. “We found out that pear is a very high electricity generating fruit. We are happy to work together as a team because it enabled us share ideas and it made our project easy and interesting” said Beema Boateng.

Apart from different academic projects displayed by the students, there were also other activities at the fair to add up to the fun. There were food vendors, lots of music as well as health and fitness activities. The students and all participants also visited Silverbird Lifestyle stands at the fair grounds to get themselves some interesting books, toys and stationery.

Sponsored by Zain, Multi TV and Silverbird, this year’s event was organised under the theme: ‘Science, Maths and Technology across cultures.
