STORY: MILLICENT YARO
The outgoing Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo Constituency, Albert Abongo, has disclosed that his reshuffle from the ministry has been heavily criticised by NDC constituents in Bongo.
According to him, his people could not fathom how he could be removed from his post and stated that his constituents see it as a big blow to NDC activists in Bongo.
According to the immediate past Water Resources Minister, his people argued that he was performing creditably well and there was no need to remove him from his post.
Mr Albert Abongo was speaking in an interview with TODAY in Accra.
He observed that the people of Bongo had been loyal to the NDC since they always voted for him.
He revealed that all these years, he is the only one who has been appointed as a minister from the Bongo constituency.
He said since no one has ever been appointed as a minister held any top governmental position from the constituency, his constituents felt that it was their turn to boast of a minister from their constituency only to be given a jolt when he was mentioned to be reshuffled.
The former Minister maintained that it was regional balancing that affected his position and he is personally not happy with it but since President Mills is the person who decides what he will do to move the country forward he has nothing to say.
“They were very happy when I was appointed as a Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing. Due to this situation, they held a massive demonstration about my reshuffle from the ministry I had to intervene to calm them down and told them that it is the president who knew what was best for the country and the NDC party,” he told TODAY.
He intimated that he has not regretted being a minister at the water resources, works and housing because all the staff at the ministry worked hand in hand with him and was pleased with that.
He further disclosed that if he does not get any official position from President Mills he will go back to parliament in full swing to help the legislature in decision making processes.
Mr Moses Azure, an inhabitant of Bongo constituency had this to say about the situation: “We are very disappointed about President Mills’ reshuffling of our MP Albert Abongo. We just cannot understand why he was not even posted to another ministry. Why didn’t President Mills post him to another ministry? We are very much disappointed in President Mills because the Bongo constituency is an NDC stronghold and we find it very disturbing.
“He should do something about it because if nothing is done about it we will advise ourselves from the NDC after all the PNC and others are there.”
