Mr. Alexis Ayamdor, Assemblyman for the Zorko-Kanga electoral Area in the Upper East Region, has said the President should not look beyond present and past Assembly Members when nominating District Chief Executives (DCEs).
“They stand the chance of serving their communities better than somebody who does not have any background in assembly matters because they have been trained and groomed well and are familiar with procedures and culture of the district governance structure.”
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ayamdor, observed that if Assembly Members become DCEs, the spirit of volunteerism would ascend since they know how best to engage the ordinary person in communal work without expecting monetary benefits. Read more

Penalty: Kotoko 2 : 4 ASC Linguere

Asante Kotoko were kicked out of the Caf Champions League after losing 4-2 on penalties to debutants ASC Linguere on Sunday at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
The two-time champions overturned a 2-0 loss from the first leg with goals from Kabiru Imoro and goalkeeper Isaac Amoako’s spot kick.
The match was pushed into penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.
Isaac Amoako and Ofosu Appiah missed their kicks to hand Linguere, who converted all four kicks, passage into the 1/16th stage.

Drivers should refrain from assaulting law enforcement agents
This is the second time in four weeks that a driver has allegedly beaten law-enforcement personnel in the Eastern Region.
Narrating the incident to The Spectator on Monday, the Assistant Public Relations Officer for the Eastern Regional Police, Corporal Gideon Boateng, said on Friday, February 12, 2010, a team of police personnel and a military officer were dispatched to direct traffic and ensure law and order at the Suhum Round-About.
He said at about noon, the driver of a Ford Transporter vehicle with registration number SA 1201-09, which was being driven by a young-man at top speed, ignored the persistent signals from the police to stop.
He said the vehicle was over-speeding from Kumasi to Accra and nearly knocked down a pedestrian in the area. Read more
Vodafone is most valuable telecom brand worldwide – Report

Telecommunications giant, Vodafone, has emerged as the world’s most valuable telecommunications brand, according to a global ranking of the world’s most valuable brands compiled by BrandFinance Global 500.
The same brand ranking places Vodafone as the most valuable brand in the UK, a statement from Vodafone said on Saturday, quoting a report by Brand Finance Global 500.
The report said out of the 500 global top brands, Vodafone currently ranks seventh, beating other top brands such as HSBC (8th), Toyota (10th), MacDonald’s (17th), Apple (19th) and Nokia (20th).
Vodafone was the eighth most valuable brand in the world in the 2009 rankings of the Brand Finance Global 500 report, but the brand’s image and value shot up to seventh this year. Read more

MP to pay GH¢400 fees for each youth to learn ICT

Nii Nortey Dua, Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency, is to pay GH¢400 enrolment fees for each youth in his constituency to benefit from the Information Communication Technology (ICT) module under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).
Nii Nortey Dua, who is also Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, said he would used his share of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to pay the fees and therefore asked interested persons to register with the NYEP offices for payment to be effected. Read more

The ’snow leopard’ “beat” accomplished skiers including reigning world champion Manfred Pranger of Austria and three-time medal winner here, Bode Miller of the United States. Both did not finish. Fog and mixed precipitation made for tough racing conditions, and 10 of the top 30-ranked skiers didn’t reach the finish line.

Muslim Endowment Fund launched at Takoradi

Mr Mohammed Ali, Presiding Member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), on Saturday launched a Muslim Endowment Fund known as WAQF Foundation at Takoradi.
He said with proper management, the Foundation would achieve a lot in the area of education for the Muslim community in the Western Region.
