An Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey has said that the poor performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government that has triggered economic hardships in the country, clearly depicts the overwhelming victory that awaits the opposition NPP in 2012.
The two times NPP National Campaign Manager, who accused the ruling government of exhibiting revolutionary conduct, however, cautioned all delegates of the party in the upcoming National Delegates Congress to make decisive decisions and select people who could draw strategies and unite the party for the envisaged victory.
Addressing a section of the media after a close door meeting with the Northern Regional Delegates of the NPP at the Radach Memorial Centre in Tamale, Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, who was flanked by his National Campaign Coordinator, Charles Taylor and the Northern Sector Communications Director, Mahama Haruna said Ghanaians had regretted voting for the NDC.
He emphasized that the NPP must have very tough, resolute, visionary and intelligent people to run the affairs of the party to prevent the NDC government from exploiting incumbency to rig the 2012 general elections. The Aspiring National Chairman utterly called on all the aspiring candidates vying for various national positions to circumvent personal vendetta or character assassinations in their campaign and rather concentrate on selling their messages to the delegates.
The former Tourism Minister warned the NPP followers not to assume that they could sweep majority votes on a silver platter in 2012, due to the poor performance of the government, without putting the necessary strategies in place. “We have all seen the difference between the NDC and NPP and we have seen the tragedy in the NDC government – everywhere you go people are telling you how those who voted for the NDC, including its own supporters have regretted. Now we must not assume that we are going to sweep the next votes, we must not be over confident but we must put in place the strategies that will lead to our success in 2012”.
According to the one time NPP Presidential Aspirant, the ruling government had no cause to complain about the so-called bad economy since former President John Agyekum Kufuor quadrupled the size of the Ghanaian economy.
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey insisted that Ghanaians could not afford to have the NDC government stayed in office for the next eight years, since their eleven months rule had only subjected majority of Ghanaians to harsh economic conditions. The NPP Aspirant maintained that he was the best material for the job after he had been tried and tested by the former President J.A.Kufuor as his campaign Manager in 2000 and 2004 touring all the constituencies, villages, towns and cities of Ghana to secure two times victory for the party.
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey who commended the Peter Mac Manu’s administration for their good work especially the amendment of the party constitution, appealed to the party delegates to find the best replacement to ensure a victory for the NPP.
