Peace Fm Goes To Parliament
THE MP for Bantama, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has cited Peace FM’s programme, ‘Ekwanso Brebre’, hosted by in the evenings, as one that reveals some of the most inhuman treatment meted out to women by men. Hon. Dapaah stated this in Parliament in contribution to a statement made by Hon. Mary Boforo Salifu, MP for Savelugu, on “violence against women”.
According to the MP, who said she listens to Peace FM’s late afternoon programme often, the confessions made by some women during the programme about the severe beatings they suffer from their husbands before sex is very horrible. She therefore appealed to the public to help stop all forms of violence against women.
‘Ekwanso Brebre’ addresses social issues in communities by giving the platform to both sexes to publicly share their experiences on selected issues each day.
Issues that have already been treated include: confessions about having children outside of a marriage without the spouses’ knowledge; the shocking revelation that your newly wedded husband is impotent; having a mistress/girlfriend outside marriage; outrageous and weird cases of domestic violence; wives who claim their husbands have refused to make love to them for years; ladies who have been raped; wives who claim their husbands are unaware that they (husbands) did not father their children, etc
The programme, described by Francis Doku, a Graphic Showbiz columnist as the opening of Pandora’s Box, has also witnessed some shocking revelations by some men about why they cheat on their wives and reasons why some men find it hard to make love to their wives.
Interestingly, all these topics have enjoyed immense participation, judging from the calls that flood the Peace FM studio. Callers are however impressed upon not to identify themselves, nor mention the name(s) of their partners.
A few weeks back, a hysterical woman called into the programme, admitting to having a child with another man whiles her husband believes the child is his. What compounded the situation was the fact that a DNA test had to be conducted in a few days to ascertain the paternity of the child, before he (the child) could be granted a visa. A move the woman vehemently protested. The husband could not understand his wife’s sudden u-turn on the visa acquisition issue.
But after making that mind-boggling confession on-air, she was counseled by experts (clinical psychologists) the station provided her with, and was able to tell the husband the truth, albeit in an emotionally charged atmosphere.
For more on some of these bizarre, yet true revelations, tune in to Peace FM every weekday, from 5pm to 6pm.
