Chelsea and Black Stars Midfield General, Michael Essien, relishes this historic moment with his mother, Aba Gyandoh during the launch of the Michael Essien Foundation at the State Banquet House in Accra last Saturday.
Through the Foundation, Essien seeks to become a symbol of hope and inspiration to the people of his hometown Awutu Breku in the Central Region and the youth in other deprived communities in Ghana through the provision of basic amenities like potable water, healthcare facilities and mentoring.
Former world best footballer George Weah, who assisted Michael Essien, to officially launch the Foundation says football stars, like many role models in society, must use their influence and resources to impact positively on the less privileged in society who look up to them as symbols of hope.
