AS PART of her efforts to congratulate all who have contributed to her international glory, e, also known in private life as Joyce Dongotey-Padi, last Monday presented her international award to Mrs. Gina Blay, the Managing Editor of DAILY GUIDE.
Akumaa accepted an international accolade as a radio show hostess when she clinched a $20,000 award by the Qatar Foundation (QF) in Doha to support her Widows Alliance Network for Sustainable Economic Development (WANE) initiative last Tuesday.
Dubbed World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Awards, an initiative of the Qatar Foundation, chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, Mama Zimbi, now a Sustainability Laureate of the QF, received the prestigious accolade alongside five others at the plush Sheraton Hotel in Doha. Miss Sheetal Mehta of India, Martin Burt of Paraguay, Peter Levy (USA), Vicky Colbert (Columbia) and Delio Morais from Brazil were the other five recipients.
Akumaa said she couldn’t have won the award without the support of DAILY GUIDE , which has been writing about her Widows Alliance Network. Hence, she felt the need to present the award to the paper’s Managing Editor.
Mrs. Gina Blay lauded Akumaa for her triumph, especially because she is a woman, and hoped young women in society would take a cue from her success and not always be dependant.
