Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, says managers of the scheme would soon be required to sign performance contracts.
“Our strategic intent is to build a scheme that will stand out as a model in Africa and beyond, providing affordable, accessible and quality health care,” he said.
Mr Mensah was addressing managers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Sogakope in the Volta Region.
Managers of the NHIS from across the country are meeting in the town to strategise on how to improve service delivery.
They are reviewing past performance to set new targets for 2010.
They would consider provision of a portable and sustainable scheme driven by ICT plus how to effectively market the NHIS to the public.
But most important on the agenda is to explore a once-for-life premium policy promised by the NDC government.
Meanwhile following allegations of financial misappropriation against some scheme managers, government announced that forensic audits will soon be conducted into the operations of all one hundred and forty-five schemes across the country.
A member of the NHIS Council, Stephen Ahiawordor, has told Joy News the exercise should not been seen as one of victimization.
