Madina NPP Plans For 2012

The Abokobi Madina constituency of the New Patriotic Party last Sunday brought together all 18 ward executives to brainstorm and strategise for the 2012 general elections.

The main agendum was how to effectively wrestle the parliamentary seat currently occupied by Hon Amadu Sorogho of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Though the meeting was scheduled for Ward Executives, nearly 300 party faithfuls and sympathisers who wanted to hear their leaders speak also attended.

Alex Quartey, Assistant Greater Accra Regional Secretary minced no words when he told the enthusiastic crowd the constituency’s problem were self-inflicted.

He said the NPP’s defeat was an act of God to let Ghanaians judge the political and administrative competence of the two leading parties in the country.

‘Don’t believe NPP is in opposition, but see the defeat as an act of God to let Ghanaians see the difference between NPP and NDC,” the charged Assistant Secretary told the people, who responded cheerfully.

He was positive the NPP would come back to power in January 2013, but cautioned that victory would be possible only if they buried all differences and forged ahead in the spirit of harmony.

On the party’s constitutional amendments, Mr. Quartey appealed to the leadership not to reduce it to favour only three personalities but see it as preparations that should unite the party for the next elections.
Asked what makes him believe the party would win the next elections, he responded sharply, “My brother, don’t pretend all is well. Look at the expressions boldly written on the faces of these people (pointing to the gathering) and you would know what I am saying.”

‘Where is the security, where are the jobs and where is the peace? he quizzed adding “Mills has lost focus and must resign.”

The Constituency Chairman of the party, Kofi Asante asked the Ward Executives to go back and start preparations towards the next elections “as it is very crucial to our very existence.”

He later feted all the nearly 300 people with good food and drinks, amidst dancing to the party’s campaign hit songs till the late hours of the night.

Present also was the Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Albert Afaglo.
