Gov’t imposes curfew on Akwatia

204x_mg_bevin_baba_jamal_and_dr1The Minister for the Interior Cletus Avoka has imposed a curfew on the town of Akwatia.

This follows violent clashes on Sunday between supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, ahead of Tuesday’s bye-election to be held in six polling stations.

A statement from the Ministry of Information said the curfew will be effective from 7pm to 6am and takes immediate effect.

The curfew will be effective in Akwatia and all environs within a 5 mile radius.

The statement further added “Government regrets the deteriorated security situation in Akwatia and has taken the decision to impose a curfew in order to restore security and safeguard life and property.”
