Kumasi, June 18, GNA – An educationist has described as unacceptable disparities in the postings of newly-trained teachers and advised that majority should be posted to rural areas where their services are most needed.

Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said majority of professional teachers in the region are concentrated in the urban centres while few of them are posted to the rural areas. He was addressing Metropolitan, Municipal, District Directors of Education and Regional Managers of Educational Units in the region on Tuesday in Kumasi.

Mr. Onyinah said the supply of professional teachers far exceeded the demand and advised the Directors of Education to form “Postings Committees” to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the newly-trained teachers.

He cautioned them against the tendency of concentrating the teachers in urban centres to the detriment of the rural schools. Mr. Onyinah commended teachers in the region for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the profession that had improved academic performance.

He appealed to education directorates to step up supervision and monitoring of schools to promote efficiency and good academic output.
