Water Resources Works and Housing Minister, Albert Abongo
The figure could rise as this is only a preliminary estimate.
The Water Resources Works and Housing Minister Mr. Albert Abongo disclosed this when he toured some government bungalows to assess the extent of repair works needed before government officials can occupy them.
“We will have to do a general renovation, painting, changing of doors, changing of cabinets both in the kitchen and the bedroom, almost put back every fitting that is required to make the bungalows habitable.”
The renovation of the bungalows, according to him, will take not less than a month to complete.
“There is a lot that needs to be done before the new ministers take occupation of their official bungalows.”
Mr. Abongo says he will also investigate the disappearance of items from the bungalows occupied by former government appointees.
Some of the items that could not be traced include refrigerators, air conditioners, gas cookers and other cooking utensils.
Speaking to Joy News’ Kweku Obeng Adjei, Mr. Abongo, said although he was told the items had been lodged with the respective ministries, he would investigate the matter.
If the investigations reveal that the items were taken away by the former government officials, efforts, he said, would be made to retrieve them.
“It is their (former government appointees) responsibility to return them, the (items) were not meant for their personal use and so those ex appointees should endeavour to return those items that do not belong to them,” he stated.
